Zelenskyy Calls for Stronger Sanctions After Deadly Russian Attack on Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has called for stronger international sanctions against Russia following another large-scale overnight attack that struck Kyiv and several other regions across Ukraine.

In an official statement, Zelenskyy emphasized that Russia must face full accountability for its actions and urged the international community not to remain silent in the face of continued attacks on civilians and infrastructure.

“There will be a just response for every strike. It is important that the world imposes sanctions against Russia. Russia’s responsibility for this war and our sanctions pressure must work one hundred percent,” Zelenskyy said.

Death Toll in Kyiv Rises

According to the president, at least five people have now been confirmed dead in Kyiv following the overnight Russian assault. Nearly 40 people were injured in the capital, while seven more civilians were wounded in the Kyiv region.

Rescue operations remain ongoing in Kyiv’s Darniytskyi district, where emergency teams continue searching through the rubble of a heavily damaged residential building. Authorities report that more than ten people are still considered missing.

Emergency crews are also continuing response and recovery operations in the Obolonskyi district and other affected areas.

Widespread Damage Across Ukraine

The attack extended beyond Kyiv, with multiple regions reporting casualties and destruction.

In Kharkiv, authorities reported 28 injured civilians. Two additional people were injured in the Odesa Oblast.

Across Ukraine, approximately 180 sites were damaged during the attacks, including more than 50 residential buildings.

Recovery operations are also ongoing in the Poltava Oblast following Russian strikes.

UN Humanitarian Mission Attacked in Kherson

Zelenskyy also stated that Russian forces attacked a United Nations humanitarian vehicle twice with FPV drones during a mission in Kherson.

The vehicle belonged to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and was carrying the head of the mission along with eight staff members.

According to the president, Russian forces could clearly identify the vehicle before launching the attack. Fortunately, no one was injured, and all mission representatives were safely evacuated.

Ukrainian Air Defense Intercepts Majority of Targets

Despite the масштаб attack, Ukrainian air defense forces reportedly intercepted more than 93% of incoming missiles and drones.

Zelenskyy noted that ballistic missile defense remains the most difficult challenge and thanked international partners assisting Ukraine in strengthening its air defense systems.
